Lose yourself amidst the forests and lakes of sunny California
Welcome to San Francisco – charming, vivacious, inclusive. Downright wonderful. You’ll be staying in Japantown that has a culture all its own in this diverse city. It’s also well placed to access the best of what San Francisco has to offer. Tonight, you’ll meet your fellow travellers and your tour leader will tell you more about what California has in store for you.
After breakfast, you’ll be ticking off the highlights of San Fran with your group. You’ll walk across the Golden Gate Bridge. You’ll visit Lombard Street with its eight hairpin turns. You’ll go via the hub of Union Square on your way to see the sealions at Pier 39. In the afternoon, you’ll wander the hippy neighbourhood of Haight-Ashbury to snap some pictures of the famous murals. After nightfall, perhaps the vibrant bars in the Mission District will tempt you. Or for an excellent slice of pizza, look no further than North Beach.
Leaving San Francisco behind, you’ll travel to Yosemite National Park today on a scenic drive, stopping en route to walk among the giant sequoia trees – some of the largest living trees in the world. Then you’ll journey onwards to the majestic Yosemite National Park to spend the next two nights at Yosemite View Lodge.
Pull on your walking boots. Today you’ll tackle the spectacular Panorama Trail, an 8.5 miles route with panoramic views of Half Dome, Yosemite Valley and some incredible waterfalls. This evening, the spa at the Lodge awaits to soothe weary muscles.
After a scenic drive through Yosemite and over the highest highway pass in California, Tioga Pass, you’ll arrive at Lake Tahoe. Beautiful skies, clean air and a cobalt blue lake await. After checking into the supercool Basecamp Tahoe South, you’ll take a sunset dinner cruise.
It’s back on the water this morning - this time on a stand-up paddleboard. You’ll have a lesson before heading off on a guided tour to explore the coastline and enjoy the mountainous scenery. After lunch by the water’s edge, you’ll visit a brewery to try a beer made with pure Lake Tahoe water.
You’ll swap beautiful shorelines for beautiful Winelands today – you’re bound for Napa Valley. You’ll stop for a tasting before continuing to San Francisco where your tour wraps up in the late afternoon.

We recommend you take at least US$50 dollars per day for meals not included
in the tour, drinks, snacks and other incidentals. You should also budget for
expected tipping, as well as for the optional activities that you would like
to do. Guideline prices for the most popular optional activities are listed
on our website.
Although it may not be customary in your country, it is normal and expected
in North America to tip local guides, waiters, bar staff, taxi drivers and
anyone who provides a service for you. Service workers are paid a low wage
and depend on tips for their livelihood. It can be embarrassing if you’re
confronted by a local who is expecting a tip and you are not aware of how
much to offer. For this reason we have listed guideline prices below.
A 15-17% tip is standard in restaurants and you should also expect to tip $1
per drink in bars, $1-2 per bag for porters and 10-15% for taxi drivers.
It’s also typical to tip around 10% for local guides who provide optional
activities.
Your tour leader will work long and hard for you during your tour and we
recommend a discretionary tip of US$7-$10 per passenger per day if your
leader’s performance meets or exceeds your expectations. This is of course
entirely optional.
