Get the lowdown on Georgian history and culture from an expert local guide Stroll across on the Peace bridge and admire Tbilisi’s cityscape Taste the staples of Georgian cuisine such as khinkali (local dumplings) and a selection of appetizers, with a glass of wine or chacha (local brandy) Experience a unique Georgian tea tasting
Your Tbilisi adventure begins at Freedom Square. As we admire the decadent former glories of this intriguing city, you’ll be tempted by the smell of freshly-baked bread from the underground bakeries that are located nearby. Up the steps to the clifftop is next where you should be prepared for some breathtaking views of Tbilisi. From the observation deck you’ll see the city’s main landmarks (have your camera ready). Here we will reward ourselves with a khachapuri, which literary means cheese with bread, and a glass of local wine (or mineral water from the neighbouring mountain springs). Unusually for a city tour, we will also get to see a spectacular waterfall behind the red-brick domes of the Abanotubani sulphur baths, the restorative hot springs that gave the city its name. To learn a bit more about Georgian cooking, we’ll stop at one of our favourite little gastronomic stores where we’ll explore the eclectic assortment of spices and cheeses and talk about the origins of traditional Georgian food. Next, we’ll stroll the backstreets of the Old Town towards a restaurant that’s popular with the locals for its traditional cuisine. Here we’ll dine on khinkali (dumplings filled with meat and steaming broth), Georgian salad, and more, which we will wash down with a glass of local wine or even chacha (a type of strong, local brandy) if you're brave enough. Our final stop is a museum/shop that focuses on all things tea-related. You will learn about some of the old school tea traditions, and we’ll also discuss the growing revival of tea-drinking in Georgia while we indulge in a tea ceremony! Our tour ends here, but before you go, don’t forget to ask your guide for more tips on what else there is to see and do in Tbilisi while you’re in town.
