Start Achenkirch. In the evening the leaders will hold a welcome meeting to discuss the week ahead and give advice on the local area. **
Walking from the hotel, we pass through the village then start on a gently climbing forest road before a steeper path up through beautiful woods to reach the Moosenalm, a high pasture with wonderful views. We then contour round to the Christlum ski area looking down to Achenkirch & the lake before descending down and back to our hotel. 13km, 600m ascent and descent. Max altitude 1530m
We take a short bus journey to Pertisau and then the Karwendel cable car to start our walk to Zwolferkops before ascending the Barenkopf (1991m). We descend on a different path via the Barenbaldalm where we stop for coffee & cake before descending by cable car to Pertisau and taking the ferry back to Achenkirch. 9km, 600m ascent and descent. Max altitude 1991m
Today we take a short bus journey to Maurach and then the Rofanlift cable car for a memorable ascent of the Rofanspitze (2258m), where we have a picnic lunch with panoramic views. We retrace our steps to the Rofanlift, before catching the steam train and ferry back to Achenkirch. * Update: Please note that the steam train is temporarily unavailable and will be replaced by a local bus. This is not affecting any COVID-security measures * 8Km: 430m ascent and descent: max altitude 2258m
A free day to relax or enjoy optional activities. **
We take the bus to Pertisau and walk up the Gerntal valley before taking a steep footpath up to the Pasillsattel, with amazing views behind us. We cross behind the impressive peaks of Seebergspitze and Seekarspitze, stopping for refreshments at a rustic alm before our descent back to Achenkirch. 15km, 820m ascent and descent, max altitude 1680m.
Today we take the bus to Maurach and then the cable car to the heart of the magnificent Rofan mountain range. Here we take the delightful Enzianweg path, stopping at the Dalfazalm for coffee & cake, before climbing steadily to a col at Steineres Tor (1978m). A long descent through a wild valley, via the Köglalm and down through the woods finishing right outside the hotel. 15Km; 300m ascent; 1150m descent; max altitude 1978m

Our walks have been selected to make the most of the area. Each evening, our
leaders explain what level 3 and 5 walking is on offer for the next day so
you can choose which walk to join. This is the main advantage of a
multi-grade holiday, as friends with differing ability can travel together.
At both Moderate and Challenging levels there are steep ascents and descents
often over quite rocky and uneven terrain. Due to the nature of the terrain
on this trip, neither walking level is recommended for anyone suffering from
vertigo.
*Level 3* entails walking between 5 and 7 hours per day. The area we are
visiting is criss-crossed by a network of long established trails and walking
paths, most of them well maintained and way-marked. Even so, paths will be
rocky and on occasion exposed.
*Level 5* entails walking between 6 and 8 hours per day at an easy but steady
pace. We will be using established trails and mountain paths; these will
often be steep, rocky and more exposed than the level 3 walks.
In Achenkirch, most days are around 6 hours of actual walking for Level 3 and
7 hours for Level 5, and the level of ascent for level 3 is up to 800m and
level 5 usually 1,000m. Please note that when we use lifts, the descent is
usually greater than the ascent described.
The exact itinerary (and therefore the exact length of each walk) may vary
depending on weather conditions or other factors beyond our control. Whilst
aiming to always follow the routes described in these trip notes, it will be
the leader's decision to amend the itinerary if and when necessary. Early
weeks in June may need to be limited to lower level routes due to late-lying
snow conditions. However, this is an ideal time for abundant alpine flowers
and, as it is quieter, there is a good chance of seeing more wildlife.

areas. This excellent base offers a very warm welcome, nice rooms and a
lovely spa. Some single rooms as well as double rooms for single use are

Airport transfers are carried out by private bus. Local transport is used on
most days to reach the start of the walks; as the "Achensee Holiday Card" is
included, we may use a mix of buses, ferries, cable cars or even steam train!
Please note that during the peak times of the summer season, transports can
get quite busy and this could potentially slightly delay our journeys to/from
the walks.
*Travelling flight inclusive from London: 8 days*
The group flight from London is a daytime flight departing on Day 1 of the
itinerary.
*Flights from London*
We normally use the scheduled services of British Airways (depending on
availability). As flight timings and schedules change regularly we recommend
you call one of our specialist sales staff or your agent to confirm
up‐to‐date timings. Please note timings may change at a later date and
cannot be confirmed until approximately two weeks before departure.
*Travelling land only: 8 days starting and ending in Achenkirch*
Your trip normally starts at our accommodation in Achenkirch in the morning
of Day 1 of the itinerary. Details of how to reach the start point are
provided in the Final Joining Instructions ‐ sent approximately two weeks
before departure.
Airport transfers are included for those on the group flights. Please note
that transfers are not included for clients arriving on any other flight,
even if Exodus has booked it.
If you require airport transfers, you may (by prior arrangement only) be
able to join the group transfer. Transfers are arranged to coincide with the
arrival time of the group flight ‐ please check the group flight details 2
weeks before departure. If you do not take this transfer, or miss it, you
must make your own way to the joining point at your own expense.
From Munich, you will need to take a combination of trains and buses to
reach Achenkirch. From Innsbruck airport, the journey can be done by bus only
(this usually involves 2 changes).
If you would like us to organise a private transfer, please ask your sales
consultant for a quote. Please ensure that you provide us with all relevant
information at least 2 weeks before departure. Full joining instructions
including local emergency numbers will be sent to you as part of our Final
Joining Instructions. If you do not receive these at least a week before
departure or require them earlier please contact our office or your travel
agent.
Please note there are two terminals at Munich airport. If you are not on the
group flights but taking the group transfer, please check where you are
arriving and where the group will be so you can meet your leader.
It is fair to say that the weather in the Alps can be changeable in summer,
and Austria is no exception. Temperatures during the day can be very warm,
especially in July and August, and the resulting humidity can cause some
spectacular storms in the late afternoon/early evening. Clear, fresh mountain
air in the Alps means that effects of the sun are often not noticed until
it's too late, so it is important to make sure that sun block and lip balm is
administered regularly. Given the depth of the valleys, it is also difficult
to predict when rain is on its way, so carrying waterproof clothing is also
to be advised.
Sturdy and comfortable walking boots (with good ankle support)
Windproof jacket and warm layers
Sun hat, sun cream and sunglasses
Water bottle (minimum 1 litre)
Warm hat and gloves
Waterproof jacket and waterproof over-trousers
Daypack (large enough to carry spare clothing, water and lunch)
Reusable bag to pack your lunch each day (drysack or simple fabric bag)
You may want to bring walking poles.
For meals not included, we suggest a budget around €8-12 per lunch. Of
course, as you are free to choose where to eat, you can choose to spend as
much as you like.
There is the option to make up a basic picnic lunch, comprising filled rolls
and fruits, from the breakfast buffet for a modest charge of 20 euro per
week, collected by the leader and given to the hotel. This may need to be
supplemented by materials from the village shop.
Achenkirch has two supermarkets for food and general items and the closest is
about 1km away and is open daily, except Sundays. It takes about 10 minutes
to walk. Please note that even non-prescription drugs, like Paracetamol, are
not available in supermarkets in Austria and it is better to bring these with
you from home.
There is a pharmacy located at a doctor’s surgery about 1.5 Km from the
hotel. This has limited opening hours.
There is, however, a wider range of shopping and other facilities in both
Maurach and Pertisau, which are usually visited during the week.
*Optional Excursions*
This holiday includes the Achensee Holiday Card, which provides unlimited use
of local buses, mountain lifts, ships on the lake and a steam train – as
well as a number of entry benefits.
There are a number of interesting places to visit by public transport in the
Inn Valley including: Innsbruck (the capital of the Tyrol); Kufstein (with
its fine castle) and Hall (with its mint tower and salt mines).
Although optional, a tip for the leader at the end of the trip is greatly
appreciated. This is entirely at your own discretion. As a guideline we
recommend a contribution between €15 and €20 per client.
