There are no activities planned for today so you are free to arrive in Kas at any time. The group flight usually arrives into Dalaman in the early evening and will be met and transferred to Kas. Hotel Phellos or similar
We start our holiday with a gentle warm-up day. The morning is spent on an orientation walk discovering Kas, then we can enjoy coastal views through the olive groves on the way out to Limanagzi beach, a lovely strip of beach only accessible by boat from Kas or on foot. At Limanagzi there will be time to relax or have a swim before we head back to Kas by another route, where you may see some rock tombs, a feature of the area. It was a custom of the Lycians (the predominant people of the area between the 15-14th centuries BC) to build tombs for their dead in mountainsides, or at least in high places, as they believed they would be carried to the afterlife by winged creature. There is however also the option to take a water taxi back to Kas. Your leader will advise on things to do in and around Kas, including some self-guided walking options. A very popular excursion is sea kayaking at Kekova. Sea kayaking is the alternative way to explore the famous region of Kekova and Turkey's beautiful Turquoise Coast. Our optional guided tour departs from the small fishing port of Ucagiz (approx 45 min. transfer from Kas) to explore the island of Kekova and float over its sunken city. We disembark at the charming hillside village of Simena and stroll up to a superb fortress where we can enjoy spectacular bird's eye views over the aquamarine blue bays, inlets and islands below. We will have a late lunch and then transfer back to Kas in the mid-afternoon. Hotel Phellos or similar
The walk starts in the village, taking us past an Ottoman cemetery, then over open terrain with views of the valley and Patara Beach in the distance. The walk continues by following an ancient aqueduct, still in use to this day. Along the way we can fill our water bottles with water fresh from the mountains. We then climb up through pine forests, finishing the walk at the bottom of a small stony track where our minibus will be waiting. A short drive takes us to lunch at a local village, where you can sample Turkish pide (pizza) or fresh trout. Today we will travel inland for approximately 1 hour 45 minutes to visit Arycanda, a city renowned in Lycian times for its love of pleasure and merrymaking as well as its tendency to be in constant debt. Arycanda is the most impressive of the Lycian cities and its setting is one of the most outstanding in all of southern Turkey. After visiting the site we will enjoy a delicious home-cooked lunch with one of the local families in the village. In the afternoon we drive approximately 20 minutes to the Ordubek Plateau and begin the 8km walk to Yazirbeli village. This is the highest point of the day, and from here we begin our descent with fabulous views of the surrounding landscape, made more colourful by the surrounding cedar and juniper trees. We start the day with a short transfer (approx. 40 mins) to Yesil Koy village, where we start our varied walk along the route of an old aqueduct, which, in ancient times, supplied the water to the city of Patara. Patara was one of the most important cities of the Lycian Union and is also known as St. Nicholas' (aka Father Christmas) birthplace. After 9 km we finish our walk at the impressive ruins in the Patara National Park, where you have the option to explore the ancient city, visit the ancient theatre, bouleuterion (Parliament building) and some other remains such as the necropolis. Time allowing, there is the option of going to the seemingly endless beach at Patara for a swim. The soft sand and shallow sea make this a perfect spot for sea turtles to come and lay their eggs. Not surprisingly therefore the beach today is a protected area. Walk: Distance 9 km Ascent 218m Descent 378m Max Altitude 215m Time: 4 hours Hotel Phellos or similar

Today is free for relaxing and exploring Kas, a small charming coastal town with a pretty harbour. Although tourism has discovered Kas it has managed to retain much of its old charm. There are opportunities to walk to the ancient theatre on the peninsula as well as the nearby rock-cut tombs. For the more active, you can try your hand at diving or paragliding. This trip is Activity Level 2 (leisurely/moderate) with 4 days of walking, 1
free day and 1 day of sea kayaking. Please note that although the walks run on
established paths, they can be rocky underfoot with some exposed areas (no
guard rails), so you will need to be steady on your feet. The itinerary on
this trip remains flexible, to allow you to do as much or as little as you
like. On the sea kayaking day it is possible to opt for a walk instead, and
many of the days combine sightseeing with the walking. All in all this is a
relaxing but active break where there is something to suit all tastes -
stunning walks, impressive historical sites, excellent food, long sandy
beaches and numerous optional activities including diving and paragliding.
The walks last on average 4 hours (not including rest stops) and, to some
extent, will be tailored to the abilities and interests of the group as well
as the season. Kas is a lively town in the summer; out of season it can be
quiet but is never deserted, as the town is not entirely dependent on
tourism.
