Enjoy an authentic Balkan food and culture adventure, within the heart of London! Join guide Ella, an Albanian woman from the social enterprise Women in Travel, as she guides you through the flavours, cultures and traditions of her homeland and neighbouring Balkan countries.
Your guide, Ella, will take you for a stroll along London’s South Bank, beside the River Thames. You’ll spot famous sites like St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Tate Modern and Shakespeare’s Globe, and learn about Balkan connections to these London landmarks.
We’ll stop for a picnic along the river and sample traditional Balkan delights sourced from local independent vendors in nearby Borough Market. Try some Balkan wine from a family-run wine-seller, paired with a bit of meze like delicious Croatian cheese and homemade jam. While we enjoy our snacks, we’ll discuss Balkan traditions and everyday life to the tune of Albania’s folk music.
We’ll finish our tour with a flashback to the Ottoman Empire and taste the impact it had on Balkan cuisine, in the form of a traditional Turkish coffee. Your dessert will be a sweet treat paired with a bit of fortune and fun!
Says Ella, “I started in rural Albania as someone who had little chance of studying and working or doing much else outside their village and household. I am proud that I can now take control of my life and make it the one I was dreaming of as a young child. People here know a little about the Balkans, but I’m looking forward to sharing more about our tradition and culture.”

This is a child-friendly tour, however, please note that guests must be 18+ to participate in the wine tasting. Children ages 6 and above are permitted on this tour at the regular adult rate listed above. Children under the age of 6 are permitted to join this tour free of charge. Please inform us at the time of booking if you’ll be bringing a child under the age of 6. You can do so in the special request box on the checkout page.
