In this interactive, online experience, you’ll learn how pulque is made and why it’s so important to local culture.
Welcome to Mexico City! In this online experience, you’ll discover one of the best-hidden secrets that Mexico has to offer. We’re talking about pulque!
What is pulque, you ask? Pulque is an alcoholic drink made from fermented sap from the agave plant – the same plant used to make tequila and mezcal. Known in pre-Hispanic times as the Gods’ drink, pulque has a long heritage in Mexican culture that’s been passed down over the years. And today, it is more famous than ever, thanks to its smooth flavour and how easy it is to brew.
In this online experience, join a local guide to visit a pulqueria that’s been in business since 1947 and discover why pulque is a favourite drink among Mexicans. You’ll also get a 101 lesson on how to properly eat a taco – an important skill for every Mexican! (Note that this is not a cooking or mixology class, but feel free to prepare your own taco and have a drink of your choice on hand, so you can virtually share a snack with your guide.)
Lastly, your guide will give you some suggestions for their favourite places to drink and eat, so that when you do come to Mexico City in person, you’ll be ready to experience the city like a true local!
